Flushing

Water main pipe flushing will occur throughout May in Mt. Crested Butte. This is done to improve water quality at the tap, increase the efficiency of the system, and help to uncover potential problems with valves and hydrants.

Flushing removes sediment from the water distribution system to maintain water clarity and quality. If you encounter discolored water after the flushing is completed in your area, run the cold water for several minutes to allow fresh water to work its way into your pipes and the water will clear up.

The water is still safe to drink, but you should run cold water until the discoloration goes away. The discoloration should only occur once during the period. If this continues or occurs multiple times, please contact the District at 970-349-7575.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this District procedure.
